In this episode, Laura seeks to understand the trajectories of those who move from one social class to another. How can we interpret these paths? Is it above all a story of will, merit or ambition? Is social mobility necessarily progress? To dissect these paths, Laura calls on the philosopher Chantal Jaquet. A professor at the Sorbonne and a specialist in Spinoza, Chantal Jaquet created the concept of “transclasses” to approach individuals who move from one social class to another. “Above all, it allowed me to question a certain number of categories, the idea of success, the idea of ascension,” explains Chantal Jacquet. “Changing social class is not necessarily something systematically positive, if this change is accompanied by a form of alienation, that is to say if one blindly embraces the values of the dominant environment, if one contributes to maintaining reproduction for others, I am not sure that such a journey can be presented as a real ascension.” Also with Olivier Galland, sociologist.
