Another baby was born to the black lemurs in the zoo this year! Lemur woman Uta and her husband Brutus have become parents of a baby for the second time. In Germany, the two are currently the only black lemur couple of breeding age! Curator Dr. Pauly is therefore particularly proud of little Max. Mother Uta is lovingly caring for her second son, who is currently living up to the term "spider monkey". The black lemur boy's namesake - hippopotamus child Max - is a little more independent. The two-month-old bull from the zoo is already trying to eat solid food. Mother Kathi, however, does not let her offspring out of her sight for a minute. The orangutan group around Enche, Mücke, Satu and Djasinga is also being closely observed today. A doctoral student at the Free University of Berlin wants to know whether the great apes share their food with each other when rations are scarce. An exciting experiment in which the main aim for the orangutan leader Enche is the melon... Stress among the different lemur species would also be inevitable if they were allowed out into the outdoor enclosure at the same time. On the Vari Island in the zoo, there is therefore a constant shift change. In the morning, the small red-bellied lemur family, including father Mogli, mother Rita and daughter Shari, are allowed out in the fresh air. In the afternoon, the three new Berliners, including collared lemur Tonic, explore the terrain. A small antelope lady who moved to Berlin Zoo from Holland a few weeks ago is also looking to join the group. The dik-dik female with half ears is intended to bring fresh blood into the existing antelope herd in terms of offspring. The jellyfish in the aquarium are also getting a helping hand. Artificial insemination is carried out here every few weeks. Curator Rainer Kaiser started this 25 years ago. The Berlin Zoo Aquarium now operates the largest jellyfish breeding facility in Europe.
