Tone sequence: d'' The bell was cast by Christian August Mayer in Rudolstadt in 1821. --- The village church in Wetzdorf was built in 1755 as a baroque building with an onion dome on the foundations of a previous building, of which the apse has been preserved. Around 1820 the church tower was partially demolished due to its dilapidated condition; it was given a slated storey with a temporary roof. At the same time, a bell house was built away from the church. --- The first documented mention of Wetzdorf was in 1219. Originally in the hands of the Schenken von Tautenburg, after this noble family died out, the village came to the Electorate of Saxony's Tautenburg office in 1640/52. From 1815 it belonged to the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and in 1822 it was incorporated into the Bürgel office with Tautenburg. In 1850 the town became part of the Weimar II administrative district; Wetzdorf has been part of the state of Thuringia since 1920. Today it is part of the town of Schkölen in the Saale-Holzland district and has around 200 inhabitants --- The photo was taken on February 14, 2023.
