A hike to the highest castle in the Palatinate with fabulous views and a lot of history along the way! You haven't subscribed to me yet? Then go here: https://bit.ly/2IqkgIk An icy, windy day of hiking just before Christmas - what could be nicer? Today the slightly modified 4-castle tour near #Nothweiler was on the agenda. Starting in Nothweiler, the path leads me up to the #Kuhnenkopf. This quite remote rock tower offers a great view of the #Wegelnburg opposite. That's what the Wehrmacht thought before World War II, when they set up an observation post here. Now my path takes me across with a steep climb to the Wegelnburg. The highest castle in the Palatinate has almost been completely renovated and still offers one of the most beautiful views in the whole of the Palatinate. Now it's just a stone's throw across the German-French border, behind which two more castles are already waiting. The castle ruins #Hohenbourg and #Loewenstein offer a view of the landscape that is hardly less spectacular than the Wegelnburg. I save myself the detour to the closed castle ruins #Fleckenstein and hike directly over to the Gimbelhof and further to the Col du Litschhof. I take a short break in the beautifully maintained hut. A pretty path leads me uphill again to the #Kappelstein. A German-French farce took place here shortly before the start of the war: directly opposite, the French built an observation tower and the Germans a wooden wall to obscure the view of the work on the West Wall. An arms race began with ever higher towers and wooden walls up to a height of 10 meters! Now the path leads me down to the tunnels of the former Nothweiler iron ore mine. Not far now and I reach my starting point in Nothweiler. Distance: 15 km Difference in altitude during ascent: 580 m You can also find the hike here: https://www.komoot.de/tour/611401274?...
