The Sanssouci Palace and Park in Potsdam is an outstanding architectural ensemble, the appearance of which Germany owes to the extraordinary and versatile personality of the Prussian King Friedrich II the Great. And in 1747, Friedrich began construction of his summer residence in Potsdam, called Sanssouci, to which, after the end of the Seven Years' War, he moved forever. "Prussian Versailles" - as the palace and park complex in Potsdam is often called, has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1990 as an outstanding example of monarchical palace and landscape architecture of the 19th century.
