It is a long-term residence authorization that authorizes you to reside and work in Spain indefinitely under the same conditions as Spaniards. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR A LONG-TERM RESIDENCE AUTHORIZATION? 1. Not be a citizen of a State of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or a family member of citizens of these countries, to whom the regime of Union citizen applies. 2. Not be illegally in Spanish territory. 3. Not have a criminal record in Spain and in your previous countries of residence for crimes existing in the Spanish legal system. 4. Not be prohibited from entering Spain and not be listed as being rejected in the territorial space of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement in this regard. 5. Not be, where applicable, within the period of commitment not to return to Spain that the foreigner has assumed when voluntarily returning to his country of origin. 6. Be in one of the following situations: a) Have resided legally and continuously in Spanish territory for five years. Continuity will not be affected by absences of up to six consecutive months, provided that the sum does not exceed ten months within the five years. If it is for work reasons, it may not exceed the total of one year within the five years required. b) Having resided for five consecutive years as a holder of an EU Blue Card in the European Union, provided that the two years immediately prior to the date of application said residence has occurred in Spanish territory. Continuity will not be affected by absences from the European Union of up to twelve consecutive months, provided that the sum of these does not exceed the total of eighteen months within the five years of residence required. c) Being a resident beneficiary of a contributory retirement pension, included within the protective action of the Spanish Social Security system. d) Being a resident beneficiary of a pension for absolute permanent disability or severe disability, in its contributory form, included within the protective action of the Spanish Social Security system or of benefits similar to the above obtained in Spain and consisting of a non-capitalisable life annuity, sufficient for his/her support. e) Be a resident and have been born in Spain and, upon reaching the age of majority, have resided in Spain legally and continuously for at least three consecutive years immediately prior to the application. f) Have been Spanish by origin and have lost Spanish nationality. g) Be a resident who, upon reaching the age of majority, has been under the guardianship of a Spanish public entity for the five consecutive years immediately prior to the application.
