She was the eldest daughter of Minister of Rites Duc Quoc Cong Pham Dang Hung and Mrs. Pham Thi Vi. At the age of 14, she was summoned to the palace by Thuan Thien Cao Hoang Hau Tran Thi Dang, the second wife of King Gia Long, mother of King Minh Mang to serve Nguyen Phuc Mien Tong (later King Thieu Tri) - son of King Minh Mang and nephew of Empress Cao. At the age of 15, she gave birth to her first daughter, Dien Phuc Princess Nguyen Phuc Tinh. The following year, she gave birth to her second daughter, Nguyen Phuc Uyen Y. Princess Uyen Y was born in the 7th year of Minh Mang, but died at the age of 3. On August 25, Ky Suu year (September 22, 1829), she gave birth to her third son, named Nguyen Phuc Thi, later changed his name to Nguyen Phuc Hong Nham (later King Tu Duc). In 1841, King Minh Mang passed away, Mien Tong ascended the throne, took the reign name Thieu Tri and appointed her as a Royal Concubine. In the 2nd year of Thieu Tri (1842), when there was a diplomatic matter, the Emperor went on a tour to the North, she was appointed to serve. At that time, there were very few Royal Concubines, she served by his side day and night, and entrusted her with all the seals, treasures, and tokens. She was a dignified, leisurely, serious person, with generous gestures, and often advised the palace maids to be diligent in their work, so she was appointed to the position of Thuong Nghi, and at the same time took charge of taking care of Luc Thuong. In April of the 3rd year of Thieu Tri (1843), she was awarded the title of Second-class Thanh Phi, the highest rank of the second-class Phi titles. In January of the 6th year of Thieu Tri (1846), she was awarded the title of First-class Quy Phi, the highest rank of the first-class Phi titles.
