Somewhere in the sixties of the last century, the shipyards and the business that they brought with them disappeared from Vreeswijk and the surrounding area. Residents protested, but it was of no use, the municipality built houses on the sites of the shipyards. Only one shipyard managed to survive and it is still there today!
