About :

The V 180 series of the Deutsche Reichsbahn - from 1970 series 118, from 1991 series 228 - was the largest diesel locomotive built in the GDR. It was intended to replace steam traction on a large scale. The first ones rolled along DR tracks in the early 1960s. For a long time, the beautifully designed machines were an important part of the Reichsbahn's vehicle fleet. In 1995 - already during the DB AG era - the last of them were put on the siding. We have traced the life of this popular series for you. Old industrial films and retrospectives on the active period will inspire you.
