But what are these rights? What are human rights? Human rights are not “privileges” that someone can decide to “grant or revoke”. They belong to everyone - They are therefore universal. This may seem quite simple to understand, but it becomes incredibly complex once we put the idea into practice. The history behind the concept of human rights is quite long. Over the centuries, and across cultures, we have struggled to define notions of justice. And one of the most modern affirmations of human rights emerged from the ruins of the Second World War, with the creation of the United Nations. The treaty that established the UN has, as one of its purposes, to reaffirm faith in human rights. It was in this spirit that, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In this video, I will bring you the main information about this very important document. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights establishes the basis for modern international law with regard to fundamental rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is based on the principle that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. It lists 30 articles, recognizing, among other things, the principle of non-discrimination and the right to life and freedom.
