In the past period, UNIFIL posts and soldiers suddenly came under fire from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). At least four soldiers from the peacekeeping mission were injured, while many others had to take shelter from the Israeli attacks. The international response was one of horror, but Israel itself is not interested in this now that it is demanding that UNIFIL leave the area. 'Israel uses the argument that UNIFIL is being used as a kind of human shield for Hezbollah', foreign affairs commentator Bernard Hammelburg explains.
