Info about Børglum Monastery: We do not know for sure when the first actual monastery was established at Børglum, but already shortly after 1060, when the bishopric was established, we must assume that there was at least a monastery-like community attached to the bishopric. At the instigation of Archbishop Eskil, it was the powerful Premonstratensian order that established itself at Børglum from the mid-12th century, and Børglum became the order's headquarters for its monasteries in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The Rottbøll family: In 1835, Børglum Monastery came into the ownership of the Rottbøll family. The family originally came from the main farm Rotbøl, Lodbjerg parish in Thy, which was destroyed by sand drift in the late 17th century. Since then, it has been this family that has raised landowners for Børglum Monastery.
