Director Egon Savin staged Nušić's forgotten civic drama That's how it had to be in the Yugoslav Drama Theater and in a certain way reminded the local theater audience of this aspect of Nušić's creativity, which remained in the shadow of his comedies. This is how it had to be is a melodramatic critique of social relations in Belgrade at the beginning of the last century and the need of a family to satisfy its own interests by marrying off its daughter.
