While Märklin is known and popular as the market leader in H0 gauge model railways in our country, TT gauge is the standard in Eastern Europe. This is why we see one of the most beautiful private model railways in Hungary in this video by Pennula. It is László Balogh's model railway, which is built in TT gauge and has as its main theme rail traffic around the tracks of a basalt mine of the Hungarian State Railways in the 1990s. The entire model railway system is controlled analogue and has aged and patinated perfectly in every nook and cranny. When you see the first video scenes of this model railway system, it is immediately clear that this is a work of art that László Balogh built in 1/120 scale, i.e. in TT gauge. The flex track was laid by Tillig to build his model railway, which is L-shaped and has an area of 4.7 x 2.5 metres. Of course, most of the buildings in this miniature world were also built by hand. What makes the model railway a masterpiece are the patinated locomotives and aged trains of the Hungarian State Railways. László Balogh has put a lot of effort into adding dirt and rust to the rolling stock. Even the houses and buildings are weathered and have a corresponding patina. In addition, the model railway system impresses with its delicate trees and bushes as well as its detailed landscaping. The model railway system has two levels: one in the foreground, on which there is a train station, and a level above it in the background, on which there is a railway line with a not insignificant gradient. The height difference between the two levels is about 15 cm. A shadow station has been created behind the scenes. In contrast to modern model railway systems, which are usually controlled with the help of computers based on the DCC protocol (“Digital Command Control”), the model trains on László Balogh’s TT gauge system are controlled completely analogue. For example, the switches are set manually from a control panel located in front of the model layout. Despite the analogue control, it is easy to operate several trains both at the shunting yard in front of the large basalt mine and at the two stations on the branch line and on the ascending parade route.
