The edition of the show Adevăruri despre pecut, broadcast on Wednesday, December 28, at 6:00 PM, on #TVR1, when Raluca Bibiri and her team proposed the episode "Chernobyl, an informational war". The explosion of the nuclear reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant triggered a geopolitical reconfiguration in the spring of 1986. The political-economic rivalry between East and West, across the Iron Curtain, was the main reason for hiding information about the accident on April 26, at the cost of the loss of dozens of human lives and with lasting medical effects. The Soviets' decision to temporarily and then long-term secret all data of public interest generated a similar reaction throughout the Eastern Bloc, and Romania was no exception. With the risk of exposing the population to the radioactive cloud, the authorities followed the Soviets' example and decided not to communicate important information related to the incident in a timely manner. The film "Chernobyl, an information war" proposes to reconstruct the chain of events based on archival documents: the international geopolitical framework, the decision-making context in Bucharest, the management of the situation by those responsible on the ground.
