← Trusting in Allah and taking the necessary measures - Allah the Almighty said: (And put your trust in the Ever-Living Who does not die) [Surat Al-Furqan]. Trusting in Allah the Almighty does not prevent taking the necessary measures, as the believer takes the necessary measures out of faith in Allah and obeying Him in what He commands to take, but he does not make the necessary measures the ones that create the results and put his trust in them. The One who creates the results as He creates the causes is the decree of Allah, and there is no relationship between the cause and the result in the believer’s feeling. Taking the cause is an act of worship through obedience, and achieving the result is a decree from Allah independent of the cause, and only Allah has the power to do so. Thus, the believer’s feeling is freed from worshipping the causes and being attached to them, and at the same time he fulfills them to the best of his ability, in order to attain the reward of obeying Allah in fulfilling them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has decided in many hadiths the necessity of taking the necessary measures, along with trusting in Allah the Almighty, and he also warned that there is no contradiction between the two. Anas bin Malik narrated that a man stopped his camel at the door of the mosque and was about to enter, so he said, “O Messenger of Allah, should I send my mount and trust in Allah?” - as if he understood that taking the necessary measures contradicts trusting in Allah the Almighty, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) pointed out that taking the necessary measures is a required matter and does not contradict trusting in Allah under any circumstances as long as the intention is sincere in taking the necessary measures - so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: “Rather, tie it up and trust in Allah.” This hadith is one of the hadiths that show that there is no contradiction between trusting in Allah and taking the necessary measures, provided that one does not believe in the necessary measures, rely on them, and forget to trust in Allah. Omar bin Al-Khattab narrated on the authority of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “If you put your trust in Allah as He should be put, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds that go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening with full crops.” Among the divine laws that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dealt with is the law of taking causes. If the law of taking causes is clearly evident in the being of Allah, then it is also established in the Book of Allah. Allah has directed His believing servants to observe this law in all their worldly and otherworldly affairs alike. Allah the Almighty says: {And say, "Work, and Allah will see your work and [so will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do."} [At-Tawbah: 105]. Allah the Almighty also says: {It is He who made the earth subservient to you, so walk in its paths and eat of His provision, and to Him is the resurrection.} [Al-Mulk: 15]. The Holy Quran has informed us that Allah the Almighty asked the Lady Mary to take the necessary measures when she was in the most vulnerable state. Allah the Almighty says: {And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.} [Maryam: 25]. Thus, Allah the Almighty emphasizes the necessity of taking the necessary measures in all matters and circumstances. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was the most aware of this divine Sunnah. When he was laying the foundations for the construction of the Islamic state, he took all the necessary measures and did not leave anything in vain. We have seen this in the past and we will see it in what remains, God willing. He, may God bless him and grant him peace, always directed his companions to observe this divine Sunnah in their worldly and otherworldly affairs alike.
