DE LICHTMIS – A truck driver and his combination loaded with concrete elements came off the A28 on Monday morning. The man was driving towards Zwolle, but just before the viaduct over the N377, things went completely wrong. The driver ended up in the verge and his truck and trailer hit the crash barrier. Part of the load of concrete slabs flew over the sides of the trailer and ended up in the undergrowth. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed, but the devastation was enormous. Before the recovery could even begin, the carpool area, which is located at the bottom of the embankment, had to be partially evacuated. Several parked vehicles had to be moved because there was a chance that the almost 5,000 kilo concrete slabs would fall from the embankment. After part of the parking lot had been cleared, the telescopic crane from the Russcher crane company could be moved into position. Together with the recovery crews from the Hooikammer recovery company, a plan was made to safely recover the truck combination and the concrete slabs. For the safety of all parties present, the third lane of the A28 was closed to traffic and a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour was imposed. This all led to a significant delay. With the help of the crane, the three concrete elements that were still on the trailer were transferred to a low loader. After this, the heavy recovery vehicle could pull the Scania out of the verge and park it a bit further on the highway. Finally, the three plates were lifted out of the undergrowth and these were also placed on the low loader. In the meantime, the crashed truck was ready for transport and the vehicles used were also ready to leave. Around 6:30 PM, the recovery work was completed and the repair team could start replacing more than a hundred meters of crash barrier. If everything goes according to plan, the work should be completed around midnight and the road can be fully reopened. https://www.henry-wallinga.nl/2023/09... ** www.henry-wallinga.nl ** HW-Fotografie©2023
