There is a very clear answer here: Yes! Every trainee has to write a report book. The obligation is regulated in the Vocational Training Act. In most cases, it is also specified in the training regulations for your profession. You will not receive a grade for your report book. But still make an effort to keep a complete report book. Without a complete report book, you will not be allowed to take your final exam. ❓ What do you need the report book for? The report book or training certificate, as the name suggests, is official proof of the training content and activities that you are taught during your training. This records what you have learned during your training. A properly kept report book can help you, even in unpleasant moments, to understand what the training company may not have taught you in some areas. The absolute advantage for you: The report book helps you prepare for your exams. ❓ How do I write the report book? The report book is basically a diary of the training period. You write down everything you learn during your training at the vocational school and what activities you do. It usually depends on your training occupation whether you have to document daily or weekly descriptions. The best thing to do is to look in your training contract or ask your trainer. They will then also tell you whether you can write it by hand or on the computer. There may also be certain forms and templates in your training that you have to fill out. If you don't get a template and you can choose, decide what is more convenient for you. There are templates for the digital report book on the Internet, for example on the IHK online portal. When writing, the following applies: It doesn't have to be continuous text, bullet points or short sentences are enough and it's best to write in the past tense. Make sure that your name, the year of training and the reporting period are on each page. In other words, the date of the day you are describing, or in the weekly version, the calendar week. ❓ What goes in the report book? In your training certificate, you describe your everyday work. In other words: everything you did that day or what new work activities you learned. You can also note training courses or appointments and how long the individual tasks took. You can also include the content from vocational school lessons. But it's enough if you just list them and don't describe the facts in detail. One A4 page per week is a good guideline so that you know roughly how much you should write. Sit down at your notebook at regular intervals from the start. It might help you to spend 10 minutes a day on it. Writing the report book is part of your working time. It is also important that you sign the training certificates. If you are under 18, your legal representatives must sign for you. ❓ How is the training certificate checked? Just as you have the obligation to keep the training certificate, your trainers are obliged to check the document regularly. Your supervisor checks whether you have documented everything correctly and completely. An electronic signature is inserted into the digital training certificate. So you do not have to print out the online report book every time. Just remember to present it to your trainer regularly for signature. This does not have to happen weekly, but it is best to do it monthly so that it does not get lost.
