Giovanni Villani and Flavia Capone talk with him about “Banda città” published by Las Vegas editions in October 2024. Filippo was a local star in the early 90s thanks to Caccia all'Antenna. During the heyday of two-way radios, at just eleven years old and with the code name Alan 68 he was the child prodigy of CBs. But now we are in 2019 and his adult life is much more ordinary: due to love affairs that ended badly, Filippo moved from Vercelli to Modena and works in a mechanical workshop. He has long since lost contact with his homeland and especially with Nicola, his teenage son, whom he hasn't seen for four years. But one day his old life comes knocking again: Tornado, another radio frequency enthusiast, calls him and suggests that he re-do the Antenna Hunt, the competition that made him famous. Filippo doesn't want to participate but is dragged to his old town by Elena, a prostitute with a heart of gold and common sense. Just as he feared, the renewed Antenna Hunt will be much more than a competition between radio amateurs, and will force Filippo to face not only his past but also his responsibilities as a father and therefore his future. Gianluca Mercadante was born in Vercelli in 1976, where he lives and works. Dozens of his stories have appeared in anthologies, magazines and for Giallo Mondadori. He has published McLoveMenu (Stampa Alternativa, 2002 – Parole di Sale Award), Il Banco dei Somari (NoReply, 2005), Nodo al Pettine – Confessions of an Anarchist Hairdresser (Alacràn, 2006) and since 2008, always and only with Las Vegas Edizioni, he has published Dear Budding Writer, The Timeless Island, Transmissions will resume as soon as possible, Polaroid, Cherosene, Dear Budding Writer, Hormonal Casino, a literary case in the eBook market and among the top ten erotic novels of recent years according to “Panorama”.
