Former Governor Saito Motohiko was re-elected in the Hyogo Prefectural Gubernatorial Election held on November 17th. He overturned the initial prediction that he was at a disadvantage and won over 1.1 million votes. He defeated six newcomers. The next day, on the 18th, at a press conference, former Governor Saito cited the "spread of social media" as the reason for his victory, commenting, "I really felt the positive side of social media, that the people who support me spread through social media."
