Tolosa Giants and Big-Headed Show - Espectáculo de los gigantes y cabezudos de Tolosa 2021 (ESK.) The purpose of the Kultura Plazara festival is to promote culture and support the work of local groups and artists. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the City Council has been particularly and continuously supporting and promoting cultural activities in Tolosa by organizing various programs. In these, the City Council has hired local groups and artists to maintain their activities and work, including, for example, the Giants and Big-Headed Company. The company, with the support of the City Council, organized a great show on October 9, 2021 in the Tolosa Bullring. In Tolosa, the first information about giants and big-headed people dates back to 1657. Francisco de Azpillaga created the giants of Pamplona, but there was no company that would perform them. In 1977, there were some giants in the municipality, but they were later abandoned. Since then, and until 1991, more modern giants were made, in series. This creation in series did not make them so attractive, so some people from Tolosa formed a group to create something new, original, unique, with a greater identity and a connection to the town. In 1993, they worked for a whole year and, with the help of different companies, they created the first giants of Tolosa that we know today. The group, created by Iñaki Moyua, currently has 35 members, 6 giants and 10 big heads. On May 1, 1995, they premiered 4 giants (Domenjon González de Andia, Catalina de Tapia, Bordon dantzaria and Neskatila) and 7 big heads (Sorgina, Akerra, Txantxo, Ostegun Gizen, Ostiril Mehe, Txilabas and Kalderero). Seeing that they were generating more and more interest, the troupe began to grow: in 2004, in honor of the Tolosa Carnival, Peiok and Isabelita joined the giants' group. They also created the giants of the Veleta and Ero Etxe gastronomic societies. Their intention has always been to create more characters. This is how they created the last one, in honor of Juanito Lope. The objective of the Kultura Plazara festival is to enhance culture and support the work of local groups and artists. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the City Council has supported and promoted the cultural activity of Tolosa in a special and continuous way by organizing different programs. In them, the City Council has hired local groups and artists in order to give them an opportunity to maintain their activity and work. Between these groups is located, for example, the Comparsa de Gigantes y Cabezudos that, together with the City Council, organized a great show on October 9, 2021 in the Plaza de Toros de Tolosa. As for Tolosa, the first information dates back to 1657: a man called Francisco de Azpillaga made the giants of Pamplona, but there was no comparsa to take them out. In 1977, there were also municipal giants, but then they were abandoned. Since then, and until 1991, more modern giants existed, which were produced in series. The fact that they were created in series is not attractive; so this meant that a group of Tolosaras were encouraged to create something new, more original, unique, and that had more identity and relationship with the people: they spent the whole year 1993 working on the first giants of Tolosa that we know today, with the help of different companies. The troupe (whose creator is Iñaki Moyua) has around 35 members, 6 giants and 10 cabezudos. On May 1, 1995, 4 giants (Domenjon González de Andia, Catalina de Tapia, Bordon-dantzari and Neskatila) and 7 cabezudos (Sorgina, Akerra, Txantxo, Ostegun Gizen, Ástraúl Mehe, Txilabas and Calderero) premiered. People began to attract more and more, and so the comparsa began to grow: in 2004 they added Peio and Isabelita to the group of giants, in honor of Carnaval de Toulouse. The heads of the gastronomic societies Veleta and Ero Etxe were also created. His intention has always been to create more characters, and that's how they created the last one, in honor of Juanito Lope.
