Translation: Arnaud Demaegd © Éditions Bragelonne / Sans-Détour, 2015 ------- With "The Lurking Fear", Lovecraft takes us back to the Catskills and its decadent populations (see #5, "Beyond the Wall of Sleep"). Once again, it is a question of civilizational regression - on the scale of a people, or a family. Consanguinity, withdrawal, and here we are at the gates of involution, of this regression that leads to cannibalism - a theme already addressed (see #20, "The Image in the Deserted House"). We can celebrate with dignity the very first mention of "tentacles" (yes, there were some in "Dagon", but they were engravings on the great monolith; here, Lovecraft oscillates between real description and metaphor... much more fearsome!). Finally, we will not be insensitive to this curious but insistent source of anxiety: silence. How many times, in his stories, does Lovecraft tell us that the manifestations take place "without any noise"? It is ultimately quite frequent: here, therefore, but also in #32, "Herbert West Reanimator" ("But I would not have sunk into madness if these cursed legions from beyond the grave had not been so silent"), #31, "Azathoth" ("[…] Infinity whirled noiselessly around the dreamer"), or #23, "The Nameless City" ("frozen in the funereal silence of an eternal sleep"). 00:40 chapter 1: The shadow on the chimney 18:21 chapter 2: A passer-by in the storm 35:38 chapter 3: The truth about the red light 53:23 chapter 4: The horror in the eyes ------- Reading, Illustration and Music by Tindalos ------- Next video: The rats in the walls ------- To find the illustrations, the music, and the whole universe of Tindalos https://www.tindaloslechien.com To find the stories in mp3 https://hearthis.at/tindalos To follow Tindalos on Facebook / tindalos.lechien.5 For a nice little boost by supporting Tindalos on Tipeee https://fr.tipeee.com/tindalos Want to treat yourself to an illustration of Tindalos? https://www.tindaloslechien.com/bouti...
