This skeleton of a dead whale has been lying in the dunes of the Wadden island of Rottumerplaat for a year and a half. Scientists leave it there on purpose so that they can study it. And that produces remarkable results. For example, the skeleton attracts many beetles. By placing cameras, the researchers were able to see that 57 species of beetles have come to the carcass. And 21 of those species have never even been spotted on the island before. #whale #island #rottumerplaat Questions, tips or ideas?
