It will be discussed in a short time from now along with other equipment programs in the Parliament Chapters: 00:00 - Introduction 00:31 - What is AAV7? 01:13 - Operation 01:56 - Armor and Armament 02:32 - Agility Five new equipment programs of the Special Forces are brought to the Parliament in a short time by Nikos Panagiotopoulos before the members of the Special Standing Committee on Equipment Programs and Contracts. One of these GES benefits concerns the supply of "Amphibious Armored Vehicles", i.e. 71 AAV7s, which have amphibious capabilities. What Is AAV7? The Amphibious Assault Vehicle, known as the AAV7 was also called the LVTP7 by the US Marine Corps and other operators. The vehicle is a massive amphibious tracked vehicle whose purpose is to land troops on open beaches. For this reason it was designed and developed in such a way as to be seaworthy. Its production began in 1970 and 1971, with 1985 being the year the vehicle was officially renamed the AAV7. By the end of production more than 1,500 vehicles were produced for the US Marine Corps and seven foreign customers. As for the US, the AAV7 is intended to remain operational until 2035. Operation The AAV7 has a crew of three, including the commander, gunner and driver. The spacious troop compartment can carry up to 25 Marines or approximately 4.5 tons of cargo. Entry and exit of soldiers is via a rear ramp or roof hatches. The AAV7 is deployed at sea from amphibious assault ships. The armored vehicle is attempted for entry into semi-maritime areas. The primary mission of vehicles during amphibious combat is to dominate a beach and protect a coastline for incoming troops. When ashore the AAV7 can operate alongside other armored vehicles. Its functions include guarding critical points, patrolling, and transporting troops and supplies inland. Armor and Armament The armored has welded aluminum hull armor. Its armor provides protection against small projectiles and artillery shell fragments. Recent conflicts have shown a vulnerability of AAV7 to landmines and improvised explosive devices. The AAV7 comes with a small turret. It was initially armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, although it was later deemed that only one machine gun was insufficient and a 40mm automatic grenade launcher was added. Versions with heavier turrets equipped with 20 or 30 mm guns were also tried, but these designs were eventually abandoned. Agility The AAV7's 400 hp engine can run on multiple fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene, etc. Its maximum speed on road is 72 km/h, while on water it is 13.5 km/h. https://www.pentapostagma.gr/ethnika-... #VVA7 #amphibiousassaultvehicle #amphibiousassaultvehicle
