Thermochemistry review In this review class we will talk about thermochemistry. We will describe the concept of heat and temperature, enthalpy, state function, endothermic and exothermic processes, standard enthalpy, enthalpy of formation, Hess's law and bond enthalpy. Exercises solved in this thermochemistry review class (UNESP 2011) We can observe daily that chemical reactions and physical phenomena imply energy variations. Analyze each of the following processes, under atmospheric pressure. I. The complete combustion of methane (CH4) producing CO2 and H2O. II. The melting of an iceberg. III. The impact of a brick on the ground when falling from a height h. Regarding the processes analyzed, it can be stated that: a) I is exothermic, II and III are endothermic. b) I and III are exothermic and II is endothermic. c) I and II are exothermic and III is endothermic. d) I, II and III are exothermic. e) I, II and III are endothermic. (UECE 2014) Normally a chemical reaction releases or absorbs heat. This process is represented in the following diagram, considering a specific reaction. Regarding this process, indicate the correct chemical equation. a) H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) = H2O(l) – 68.3 kcal b) H2O(l) – 68.3 kcal = H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) c) H2O(l) = H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) + 68.3 kcal d) H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) = H2O(l) + 68.3 kcal ????
