Pak Nam Chumphon Subdistrict is considered an important economic area of ​​Chumphon because it is a fishing port. There is a large fishing village with houses built along the mouth of the bay. Pak Nam Chumphon Fresh Market is a place to shop, meet and exchange goods, and is a good reflection of the simplicity of the people here. Although it is a large subdistrict with hundreds of fishing boats parked and people from other areas and countries living here, Pak Nam Subdistrict does not have tall buildings or convenience stores. There are only old shops that have been doing business for a long time and are familiar. In addition, Pak Nam Chumphon Subdistrict still has a way of using ferries. Most of the boats used for hire are brightly colored long-tail boats that can be driven by both men and women, and rowboats. The interesting thing is the women who own the boats for hire in the Pak Nam Canal, there are 3 of them in total. All of them have been driving for a long time. The most outstanding person is "Je Ta" who uses a rowboat to provide services. Another person is "Pa Daeng" who wears a batik cloth every time she drives a boat. "I have been driving a boat since I was young. I always wear a sarong. I tried wearing pants, but I didn't like them. The sarong is comfortable to wear," Pa Daeng or Sommas Kongsri, who wears a sarong while driving a boat for hire, proudly told us. Aunt Daeng also said that her sarong is worn all over the country, not just for driving a boat. As for Ms. Ta Sirirat Phuangsuwan, she is the owner of the last rowboat in Pak Nam Chumphon, which everyone knows because it is the only one left and is loved by the service users. Although it moves slowly, it has never had an accident. It is a rowboat that generates income and pride for Ms. Ta. Boats for hire in the Pak Nam canal earn good income only 7-10 days per month, which is when the boats stop to rest or what the boatmen call the “stop fishing” period because they catch few fish because the moonlight is too bright. Fishermen or crew members get to rest, but it is the golden moment for boat drivers because fishermen call for the service all day long, charging 10 baht per trip per person, earning tens of thousands of baht per month, enough to support their families. The stop fishing period does not only benefit the boats for hire, but also food boats that make a lot of money because the crew members wait for food such as noodles, rice noodles, desserts and various fruits from the food boat of Auntie Maem or Suporn Phomsiri, who brings the delicious food through the darkness to serve them to the side of the boat from early evening until 2 a.m. Whoever wants to eat must send a signal to let them know. Aunt Maem will drive a boat to visit. Most of the fishermen who come to relax will wait for food from Aunt Maem because while they are at sea, there is nothing to eat.
