The Villa Hammerschmidt in Bonn has been the official residence of the Federal President since 1950. It is located on the banks of the Rhine and in the immediate vicinity of Palais Schaumburg, the official residence of the Federal Chancellor in Bonn, in the center of the old federal capital. In its more than 40-year history as the first official residence of the Federal President, the villa became a symbol of the young democracy in the Federal Republic. State guests, politicians, artists, writers and representatives from all areas of society met there. Since Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker decided in 1994 to move the official residence of the head of state to Bellevue Palace in Berlin, the Villa Hammerschmidt has been the official residence of the Federal President in Bonn. When the Federal President is there, the standard is hoisted on the roof of the building. Customer: Federal President's Office www.bundespraesident.de
