The epic of the Trojan War has been called the greatest story of all time: it is about a kidnapped beauty, a siege force and a wooden horse. According to the myth, the Trojan prince Paris kidnaps the beautiful Helen, the wife of the Spartan king Menelaus. Paris flees with her to Troy. But a league of Greeks pursues them and besieges Troy for ten years without success. Only then does the clever Odysseus come up with the trick with the Trojan horse. He leaves it as a parting gift to the supposedly victorious Trojans, who are drawn to their city. But the Greeks hidden inside finally get into the city. Troy falls and Helen travels back to Sparta with Menelaus. Who doesn't know the story of the poet Homer? But what is fiction and what is reality? But who was Homer anyway? Hardly anything is known about him. It is even unclear whether there was even a single poet named Homer. Nor did he write when the war took place. To this day, scientists are debating more than just that. Also about whether the war took place as Homer reports or is more of a myth with a historical core. One person who was convinced of the authenticity of Homer's reports was Heinrich Schliemann. In 1870, the German archaeological pioneer was certain that he had discovered the remains of Troy. In northwestern Turkey, he found a city from the Bronze Age that could fit Homer's descriptions. Schliemann also researched the attackers, the Mycenaeans, and found traces of a Bronze Age metropolis there. It was from here that King Agamemnon is said to have called the Greeks to war against Troy. So did the Trojan War and its heroes and heroines really exist as Homer describes it? Or did Homer just write down a fantastic story that he set in real places? //Chapter// 00:00 Intro 00:22 The greatest story of all time 01:45 Who was Homer? 02:24 When did the Trojan War take place? 03:56 What kind of time was that? 06:19 Did the Trojans even exist? 08:51 Who were the attackers?
