The incident of a wolf attack in early 2022 on a domestic dog near the Bafi shelter on Parnitha confirmed how important it is to have proper information for citizens about wild animals. The first wolves on Parnitha appeared ten years ago. They came down from the mountains of Boeotia and there they found the ideal place to settle and gradually increase their population. The regeneration of the forest after the fires and the presence of hundreds of deer protected by law, ensured the right conditions. VICE met Mr. George Giannatos, a biologist-fauna researcher, who is systematically involved in the reappearance of wolves in the Parnitha National Park. With the team of the NGO Biosphere, after a year and a half of systematic recording, which included, among other things, genetic and trophic analysis, they managed to have the first comprehensive study on the presence of wolves in the Parnitha ecosystem.
