Elijah, filled with the power of the Lord, girded his waist and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to Jezreel, a distance of about 20 miles. This act not only demonstrated the power of God in Elijah’s life, but was also a sign of the authority the prophet had as God’s representative on earth. He was fed by ravens in the wilderness, raised a widow’s son from the dead in Zarephath, and finally, was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind without tasting death, riding in a chariot of fire. These events show not only the power of God in Elijah’s life, but also His faithfulness to the prophet who remained true to his calling, despite the many difficulties and dangers he faced. He was not afraid to confront King Ahab and Jezebel, even though they tried to take his life on several occasions. His trust in God was so great that he was willing to defy the king himself, knowing that the Lord would protect and sustain him. Throughout his life, Elijah demonstrated that when you trust God and follow His will, there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome.
