While throwing boomerangs in a gravel pit, Wolfgang Schaad and his son Thomas accidentally find the body of a man. The dead man is no stranger to the area - just outside Munich. It is the doctor Dr. Baldewin, who was reported missing by his wife three days ago. On his steep path from worker's son to husband of a wealthy woman, to doctor who became extremely rich himself through his speculation in land and property, he has made more enemies than friends. His weakness for other men's wives has also made him one of the most hated people in the area. Marina, his pretty receptionist and last lover, seems to be one of the few exceptions.
