On May 4, 2013, Marlene Rodrigues da Silva was walking along the coast of Macapá with her friends when she was approached by Rogério Furtado Silva. Rogério, who was in a taxi with another unidentified man, invited her to go to the “cave”, a beach resort. Marlene's body was found 20 days later, with signs of torture, asphyxiation and without clothes, in the Zerão neighborhood, in the South Zone of the capital (where the “cave” is located). On April 29, 2022, Rogério Furtado Silva was acquitted by the jury. The defendant's defense emphasized in their testimony that Rogério had not participated in the crime because he did not know the victim and that the taxi driver had not been investigated in the police investigation.
