The recording was made at the school of ancient Greek IDEOTHEATRONS Epiktitos 1, 116 35 Pagrati ------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------- Brief presentation of the speech The book THE MYSTERIOUS INTERPRETATION OF THE ODYSSEY BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE NEOPLATONICS attempts an allegorical interpretation of the Odyssey, considered as a riddle about the soul , based on the scattered interpretive approaches of the Neoplatonists, who tried to delve into the high meanings of the Epics by tracing their initiatory dimension and delivering a philosophical teaching, which dictates a correspondingly high philosophical life. According to the allegorical interpretation, Odysseus is the symbol of the soul, which carries within it the divine spark of the mind. His journey symbolizes the initiatory course of every human soul, which strives to overcome all the obstacles placed before it by the density of physicality, material nature and the false world of phenomena. Through the 12 stations of Ulysses, it is revealed how man will manage to tame his instincts, eliminate egoism and vanity, acquire a firm will, avoid the deceptive allure of material pleasures, defeat his fear death and "closing his ears to the sirens" of the world of matter, with the power of knowledge and virtue he acquired, to return one day to his true homeland, the spiritual world. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Biography of the speaker Evrynomi Gavra is a lawyer, PhD candidate of the University of Athens and author.
