Lake Blausee is one of the most fascinating and mysterious places in Switzerland, surrounded by natural beauty and an aura of legend. Located in the Blausee Nature Park in the Bern region, it enchants visitors with its incredibly blue and crystal-clear waters, which seem to have come straight out of a fairy tale. The lake’s vibrant color is actually the result of the presence of specific minerals and the purity of the water that comes from underground springs. But what makes Blausee even more special is the legend that accompanies it. According to an old local story, the lake got its blue hue because of the tears of a young woman who suffered a great loss. Legend has it that she was in love with a young man from the region, but he died tragically. Inconsolable, the young woman began to visit the lake frequently, crying for her beloved until, in a moment of despair, she was overcome by grief and drowned herself in the deep waters of the lake. Locals say that the vibrant blue of the lake represents the tears she shed in sadness. To honor this story of love and loss, a statue was placed at the bottom of the lake, representing the young woman in her eternal sadness. Created by Swiss sculptor Raphael Fuchs, the statue brings a melancholic air to Blausee, reinforcing the sentiment of the legend. In the crystal clear waters, the statue is easily visible to visitors, who can view it from the shore or from boats. Thus, the statue and the lake itself have become a symbol of eternal love, mourning, and the power of nature to preserve these stories over time.
