However, Prabowo's career journey, who was once Soeharto's son-in-law, was full of twists and turns. On March 20, 1998, Lieutenant General Prabowo was appointed Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) which at that time had 27,000 soldiers. Prabowo Subianto's career followed in the footsteps of his father-in-law, former President Soeharto, who also led the elite Army troops from March 1, 1961 to December 2, 1965. Prabowo was promoted to Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad), after being promoted to Lieutenant General. Prabowo replaced the previous Pangkostrad, Lieutenant General Sugiono.
