In the picturesque Megalo Chorio of Evrytania, the tranquility of the landscape meets the experience of a man who, at the age of 68, proudly carries the burden of animal husbandry. He remembers that since he was a small child he has been working with sheep, because he liked them and did not study anything else. Kostas has sheep that graze freely in the mountains around the village, but in winter he is forced to keep them indoors due to the weather conditions. The big challenge facing Kostas is the increasing presence of wolves. The herds, which are the labor of a lifetime, are destroyed, adding another factor of uncertainty to the already difficult daily life of the livestock farmer. Kostas, with a look full of nostalgia, remembers the years when livestock farmers were mobile, going down to the plain during the winter. But that tradition stopped, and Kostas is here, dedicated to his work, offering his time and dedication to keep this tradition alive. The breeder talks to us about the difficulties he encounters every day, underlining the need to always be close to the herd. There are no holidays or celebrations for Kostas, as caring for animals requires constant presence and dedication. But he regretfully admits that the new generation finds it difficult to enter this industry. Profit has fallen significantly as feed prices rise. It is obvious that, despite his love for sheep, the economic pressure makes it difficult to survive in livestock farming. Kostas closes the conversation with a deep feeling of conflicted love and challenge. While the world changes around him, he continues to fight to preserve the tradition and way of life he loves, against all the odds thrown at him. Dealing with livestock problems is important for the Greek economy and society.
