In an election that had several aspects to analyze, one was the high vote for the Frente Amplio in departments where it usually does not get it. Between October and November, for example, it grew strongly in Rivera and Cerro Largo, Colorado and White strongholds respectively. Small towns stand out in coalition areas: Vergara in Treinta y Tres, Sequeira in Artigas or Palmar in Soriano. But the result in Durazno is even more surprising. In October, for the first time, the Frente Amplio (FA) was the party with the most votes in the department of Durazno - another White stronghold. Not only that: the winning sector was list 1001, that is, the Communist Party (PCU), for which the accountant and union activist Aidemar González was elected deputy. In the runoff, Durazno went to the coalition. However, the left won in some small towns and, fundamentally, in the departmental capital. There, Yamandú Orsi obtained 50.36% against Álvaro Delgado's 49.64%. All eyes are on the militants, who have a very different task in the interior of the country than in the metropolitan area. And they particularly point to the elected deputy: Aidemar González, who in alliance with the Orejanos sector not only defeated the Blancos but also the MPP, which had a seat in Durazno for three terms. In addition, it was one of the few departments where the MPP was not the most voted sector of the FA, and the only one where the 1001 was.
