Alutaguse National Park covers the majority of the Alutaguse Lowland. The region has been characterized by sparse human settlement and a high proportion of natural landscapes throughout history. The core of the national park consists of extensive marshland (23,855 ha or 54%) and forest landscapes (18,759 ha or 42%). Hummocks, moors and dunes create variety in the generally flat area. Many species, including wolves, bears and lynx, migrate through Alutaguse between Estonia and Russia. Find out more about Estonian protected areas at https://www.kaitsealad.ee/.
