(cover photo: Dimitris Mougos) Talking to Aris Dimokides: LEX, Haris Alexiou, Yiannis Oikonomidis, Spartakos, Angel Saft, Dimitris Mougos, M. Hulot, Alexandros Voulgaris (The Boy), Giorgos Lentzas *** LEX is the best known and accepted Greek rapper, in the sense that it is the first name rapper that entire generations learned about before even hearing a song of his or never having heard one, and passed into the collective unconscious as a worthy artist of the music that the new generation listens to. Music that was generally demonized. He was born, grew up and appeared in Thessaloniki, which makes him the youngest representative of artists and currents that the city "gives birth to". That is, artists who come from Thessaloniki, stand out musically and then become more widely known. He is a continuation of the tradition to which Savvopoulos, Malamas, Angelakas and others belong. A special discussion and surge in his popularity was created in 2022 when he performed two large participation concerts in stadiums in Athens and Thessaloniki. These concerts sparked debate on social media among boomers, with one camp wondering "who is he?" and "is that music now?" and the other to pretend that he knows him and that he is "too good", in an effort by those who subscribed to it to try either to follow the times or the fashion. Is LEX a fad? Is he the one who managed to musically bridge old and new sounds so that everyone can listen to him? Is he "the poet of the new generation?" Is she an older star now? Overpriced or objectively priced? An anti-star slowly becoming a star? From "Not today" (2018) he writes about the bus 5 and the 10 playing with the center of the field and Thessaloniki... The five doesn't start without us I run the center like I'm a ten In the west they tell me what you did again ... in "Graffiti" (2024) who writes about the streets of Athens driving a jeep: I am in the center of Athens, Patision in the SUV Who said that the flower of youth does not live? I'm greeted by four seeds from the planter This is a rap for the people, not folk, it's not the same Content contributor: Eleni Kalesi *Music backing: Pan Pan / New*Deal / Epidemic Sound **Excerpts from ERT from the ERT Archive, which we thank you very much for the license To not miss any episode of the series Mikropragmata, subscribe: On Spotify: https://bit.ly/3C3UgxA On Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/43xUkS1
