Green spaces ensure the quality of life in cities: They help to deal with the consequences of climate change such as heat and heavy rain and protect biodiversity. Gardens, parks and open spaces also perform important social functions as meeting places and places of recreation. However, the growing need for housing and commercial space means that urban green spaces are increasingly being pushed back or not given enough consideration - especially in inner-city locations. The question of how urban green spaces can be preserved and developed despite densification and climate change is therefore more urgent than ever: in public and private spaces, from the city-wide level down to the individual building. Using Munich as an example, the video refers to various green measures and design options from individual actors and discusses the importance of showcase projects. The film stimulates the imagination with animated images of the future: the visualizations open up possibilities for a transformation towards climate-resilient urban districts. This requires integrative approaches in urban planning that consider climate protection and climate change adaptation together and involve a wide range of actors. The film was created as part of the “Green City of the Future” project with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the “Future City Lead Initiative”. +++++++++++++++++++++ About the “Green City of the Future” project: The joint project aimed to support the maintenance and improvement of green infrastructure in a growing city, taking into account the consequences of climate change and to increasingly consider these in urban planning processes in the future. The spatial focus of the investigations was the Bavarian state capital Munich and individual city districts. The project was led by the Technical University of Munich. Also involved were the Institute for Ecological Economic Research (IÖW), the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and the City of Munich (Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations and Department of Climate and Environmental Protection).
