It begins with the presentation of the submarine cruiser Surcouf, the largest submersible in the world at the time of its launch in 1929. Its history is covered, from its design in the 1920s, to its commissioning in the early 1930s, then its participation in the Second World War. We then conduct the investigation using works by submarine officers, to try to shed light on the mysterious circumstances of its disappearance, including a detailed presentation of the two biggest theories: the collision with the cargo ship Thompson Lykes, and its accidental destruction by American maritime patrol aircraft. More than 82 years after the events, we will try to answer this question as best we can: how could one of the largest submarines in the world have disappeared like this, without leaving the slightest trace?
