When it comes to the Great Migration of Peoples, it is always about the Germanic peoples who invaded the territory of the Roman Empire, and a little about the Huns of Attila who swept across Europe like a hurricane. But what about our ancestors? Where were the Slavs when the Germans created their barbarian kingdoms on the fragments of the ancient empire? For a long time, we knew practically nothing about this; the whole of Eastern Europe of that period was one big blank spot. However, recent archaeological finds help us shed light on the earliest history of the Slavs and their great migrations. Oleg Aleksandrovich Radyush, a research fellow at the Department of the Great Migration of Peoples and the Early Middle Ages at the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, talks about what happened on the territory of modern Russia, Ukraine and Belarus in the middle of the first millennium AD.
