Last weekend, the National Action Party elected its new leader, in an exercise in which less than fifty percent of the PAN's electoral roll voted, a list that is in itself subject to non-direct affiliation with the party, and whose results were overwhelming in favor of Jorge Romero Herrera. The news should outrage but not surprise. And this is because the PAN is the only political actor incapable of detecting the ideological and results crisis that it has suffered for a dozen years and that today explodes in its lack of leadership, its doctrinal zigzagging, its inability to make a sanitary fence with its most harmful offspring from the past, such as the remnants of Calderonism, and its inability to make a more or less sensible diagnosis of the country and a minimal self-criticism where it can compensate, at least in discourse, for its multiple errors in recent history.
