The Kola Superdeep Borehole, at 12,226 m, is the deepest well in the world. It is located in Russia near the border with Norway and is also the deepest point on Earth. The project cost more than 100 million dollars and was the USSR's attempt to drill as deep as possible into the Earth's crust for scientific research purposes only: in 1979 the Soviets achieved the depth record by beating the 9,583 meters of the American Bertha Rogers Hole in Oklahoma. The Kola's record is still unbeaten and it remains the deepest exploratory well in the world that directly drills into the Earth. Initially it was supposed to reach 15,000 m, but work was stopped due to the temperatures found, much higher than expected, and a viscous rock layer that made drilling difficult. In this video we tell the story of the Kola, the deepest terrestrial drilling ever made by man. 00:00 The deepest man-made well in the world 00:44 What does an exploratory well look like and how big is it 01:19 The deepest point in the world is in Russia 02:14 Why was the Kola Well dug? 03:06 The start of drilling 04:03 Overcoming the crystalline basement 04:25 The goals of the Kola excavation project 05:08 How the first 7 km were excavated 06:20 Drilling the next 7 km 07:12 The difficulty of the last km: coring in the well 09:01 The interruption of work and the side track 09:52 The high temperatures 11:02 The record depth and the suspension of drilling 11:50 The results of the excavation of the Kola well Book (1400 reviews at ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️): A treasure on the ground floor.
