Even if your muscles are paralyzed, visual information is visible through your eyes, so you may be able to see the room you are sleeping in. The principle of lucid dreaming is to connect your dream body and brain in that state, but it requires a lot of luck, so there is no guarantee that you will succeed in a day or two. Some people succeed right away.
