Sabine and Simon have founded a community and cooperative on ten hectares of land near Cologne for anyone looking for an alternative way of life. A total of 25 adults can live at Disternich Castle. To be accepted into the community and the cooperative, applicants must complete a year's probationary period after an intensive getting-to-know-you period. After that, the members of the cooperative - the core group - decide on their admission. Two thirds must be actively in favor. If there is only a veto, the person cannot move in. David and Clara were among the first to join the cooperative three years ago. Since then, they have lived in the community with their children Caspar and Olivia. The cellist and the pianist met and fell in love at the music college. They see the castle as a meeting place for art, culture and sustainability. Marcel travels through Germany as a craftsman and ends up at Disternich Castle. He actually only wants to stay for half a year or a whole year. But in the community he also finds a family and a new home. Dawid and Eva's probationary year is coming to an end. The upcoming decision about whether to join the community is getting on their nerves. Eva really wants to stay in the community, but she knows that her partner Dawid is in a bad way. He has a lot of conflicts and arguments in the group, which also puts their relationship to the test.
