About :

Their heart beats for animals: Animal rescuers Sina (20) and Janne (23) live with around 100 animals on a sanctuary in the small village of Gerhardsbrunn in the Palatinate. Their love of animals knows no bounds: old, sick, abused or abandoned pets find a new home with them and they even share the family bed with the dogs. For the young couple, living with animals is both a hobby and a lifelong dream. It is important to them that others also learn more about species-appropriate animal husbandry, for example on donkey treks or children's birthday parties on the farm. Janne wanted to do something with animals even as a little boy. Studying to be a veterinarian seemed too theoretical, so he immediately trained as a veterinary assistant. He has now built up a large practice with his boss, a veterinarian from Homburg who is also a close friend. Both are also involved in animal welfare in their free time. At the animal sanctuary in Gerhardsbrunn, which belongs to the veterinarian, they take in confiscated and tortured animals: In addition to the dogs, there are also chickens, horses, ponies, donkeys, cows, sheep, goats, cats, rabbits, turtles and even raccoons. They will also be opening a cat boarding house soon. When Janne moved to the farm in the small Palatinate village in 2018, it wasn't easy to get started. "Some people think what we do is great. Others think what we do is crap. I always try to please everyone, to please everyone, but sometimes it doesn't work, but that's how life is and you have to learn to do it." He can no longer imagine a life other than in the village. There are many people in the village who support him, including the neighboring girls Emily and Lotta. Janne shares a boundless love of animals with Sina. A long-standing friendship has suddenly turned into love. The young student has now been living on the farm for a year. In the fall, the two will even become parents. "I'm happy that I'm going to be a dad. A dad to my own child, not a dad to kittens or puppies, but to my own baby and that's something really special." Janne trusts Sina and she stands by him. Because sometimes everything just gets too much for Janne and he suffers from panic attacks. "Lots of people have always said to me, Janne, be careful, you're doing too much, you can't do it anymore, you're going to collapse." But Janne is open about it, is going to therapy and is grateful for the support of friends and family.
