Inflammatory bowel diseases are a collective term, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease belong to this group. Any disease whose cause is unknown is a huge challenge for researchers. Although the exact cause of chronic intestinal inflammation remains in question, more and more important details are becoming known, which provide new and new therapeutic options to improve the quality of life of mostly young patients and eliminate their unpleasant symptoms. Thus, the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases paints a comprehensive picture of the immunology of inflammation, targeted cytokine therapy and helps to understand the mysteries of other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. The presentation is a journey through the intestinal tract, an insight into immunology, and in the process it becomes clear that everything in the human body is connected to everything else and one of the main drivers of these connections is the intestinal system.
