- Sensational find from the Viking Age in Västmanland During the excavation of two graves in Viby/Norrtuna between Västerås and Köping, archaeologists made a sensational discovery last year. Two swords had been thrust straight into two roughly thousand-year-old graves in the Viking burial ground. Something that is very unusual. In the eastern parts of Scandinavia, we know of about 30 similar weapon finds where the swords have been placed in this way. There were also large amounts of cremated bones in the graves, the remains of both the buried humans and accompanying animals such as horses, dogs and birds. Game pieces made from whale bones, bear claws that sat on traps and elegant decorative knots in silver wire were objects the dead brought with them. Later, the archaeologists were able to establish that there were remains of a third sword in another grave. Take us out to the fascinating place in Västmanland and see how it looked about a year ago in the movie about swords. Read more about the project https://arkeologerna.com/uppdrag/makt...
