Surgical intervention is one of the fundamental aspects of curative medicine. Surgery is an organized and group effort, in which each person has a specific role (surgeon, assistants and surgical technicians). However, no matter how sophisticated the technology involved, the three fundamental pillars of surgical interventions are: dieresis, hemostasis and synthesis. These pillars are known as “surgical times”. Each type of surgery and each surgical time require a set of specific instruments and precise techniques to be used in the surgical procedure. This set of actions is known as surgical instrumentation. Instrumentation includes everything from the moment the surgical table is set up to the inspection of the surgical material at the end of the procedure.
